Dick De Vries, son of Jacob and Mary De Vries, was born in Hospers, Iowa on January 10, 1902. At the age of eight years, in 1910, he moved with his parents to a farm near Sanborn, Iowa where he attended rural school, lived his youth, and grew to young manhood. He was united in marriage to Agnes Steenhoven of Hull, Iowa on November 3, 1955 at Matlock, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed on Dick's home farm until February of 1968 when they moved into the town of Sanborn. Dick had lived 58 years on the home farm before he moved to town. He passed away suddenly at his home on March 26, 1982 at the age of 80 years, two months and 15 days. He is survived by his wife, Agnes, of Sanborn; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Toms of Sac City, Iowa and Mrs. (Susan) Marvin Van Veldhuizen of Sutherland, Iowa; six grandchildren; one brother, Gerrit, of Sanborn, Iowa and two sisters, Coba Krikke of Sibley, Iowa and Lucy Baker of Richfield, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, March 29 at the First Reformed Church with Rev. Gerald Osland officiating. Casket bearers were Jake Krikke, Clarence Krikke, Gary Boogard, Larry Hulstein, Henry Baker and Larry Korthals. Interment was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home service in charge. Sanborn Pioneer 1 April 1982
