Bio
Mathilda "Tillie" Helena Goertzen was born in Stockholm Nebraska on Oct 29 1921 to Gerhard G. and Susanna "Suzie" (Penner) Goertzen; and she died in Salem Oregon at age 86 on Mar 12, 2008. Tillie met her husband William Calvin Braun in Reedley, California and they married on Jul 13 1944. After high school, Tillie completed a beauty school certificate and then supported herself at various times with skills she learned in beauty school. Over the years, Tillie also worked as a dental assistant, ran the church bookstore in Lincoln City, and used her considerable skills in canning, freezing, and baking to benefit her family and friends. She and her family lived in Dallas, Lincoln City, and Keizer, Oregon from 1957-2008. She loved her Lord, her family and her church; and she was always deeply grateful for her many good friends and neighbors and she is now missed by all who knew and loved her. Tillie was accomplished at crocheting and sewing, and she was an avid reader. Tillie was preceded in death by infant sons, William Calvin Braun, Jr. (FAG 58139214) and Son Braun (FAG 58139213); by her parents Gerhard and Susana Goertzen; and by her sister Zelma Susanna Sally Penner. She was survived by her husband Calvin of Keizer; son Bill and his family of Fresno, CA; and daughter Bev and her family of Keizer, Oregon. A memorial service was held by family and family friends for Tillie on Monday, Mar 17 2008, at Salem First Baptist Church. Family and family friends gathered again on September 28, 2012 for a memorial service in Salem, Oregon for husband Calvin at the Salem First Baptist Church. A 3rd gathering of family and family friends took place at the Reedley California Cemetery on October 11, 2013 to inter the ashes of Tillie's husband William Calvin Braun in the Reedley Cemetery gravesite of Calvin's and Tillie's 1st infant son, William Calvin Braun, Jr. (FAG 58139213), born on June 14, 1945 and died on June 14, 1945. Also on October 11, the ashes of Tillie were interred in the gravesite of Calvin's and Tillie's 2nd son, Son Braun (FAG 58139213) who died on November 2, 1945. Calvin's and Tillie's interment of ashes in the grave sites with their sons was done to honor Calvin's and Tillie's last request shared with immediate family prior to Tillie's death in 2008, i.e. "After the second spouses death, the family would place the ashes of each with the in the grave site of a son both of who were interred in separate grave sites in the Reedley Cemetery." Calvin's and Tillie's son, Son Braun, is now forever reunited with his mother Tillie.
