James Francis "Furman" Langston was born April 11, 1859, in Darlington, South Carolina to John E. Langston and Hester Martha Rodgers Langston who were married September 28, 1882 in Detroit, Alabama. He married Martha Jane Byrd, d/o John Kirk Byrd and Elvira Caroline Moore Byrd on September 28, 1882 in Detroit, Alabama, just over the Monroe County, Mississippi Line. Children of Furman and Hester were: Jettye, (submitter's grandmother) Naoma, Mazye, John Bunyan, and Troy Elmer Langston. In 1870, "Furman" was listed on the 1870 Davidson County, Tennessee Census with his parents and siblings, who were Francis J.; Lewis I.; Mary L.; and his grandmother, Margaret Rogers. He was listed on the 1880 Lamar County, Alabama Census with James Davis (or Lewis) as 21 years of age and a servant working on the farm. He was listed on the 1900 Webster County, Mississippi Census as age 47, married to Martha J., and children were: Jettye, 16; Naoma, 15; Mazie, 13; and John B., age 10. In 1910, he was still in Webster County, Mississippi, age 51, with wife, Martha J., and son, Troy E. Langston. In 1920, he was still in Webster County, Mississippi, shown as age 60, with Martha J. and Troy E. Langston. In 1930, "Furman" was in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, age 70, with wife, Martha J. and listed as an Oil & Gas Watchman. James Frances "Furman" Langston died September 29, 1935 in Mathiston, Mississippi and was buried in the Sapa Baptist Church Cemetery in Sapa, Webster County, Mississippi.(GMT)
