Bio

Hester Martha Rodgers was born August 30, 1837, in Williamsburg District, South Carolina to John Friarson and Susannah, last name unknown, Rodgers. Other children of John and Susannah Rodgers, and siblings of Hester were: Martha G.; Elizabeth Jane; Margaret Ann; David Lee; Aaron Taylor; Stephen LeGrand; William Morgan; Susanna Emeline; Francis Eli; and James Friarson/Furman Rodgers. Hester Martha Rodgers married John Ervin Langston on November 19, 1852. John was born in July 1834 in Sardis, Darlington District, South Carolina and died November 6, 1914, in Mathiston, Mississippi. Known children of John Ervin and Hester Martha Rodgers Langston were: William M.; John Frierson; James Francis Furman; Louis Ervin; Mary L.; Shadrack Roger; Susannah "Susie"; and Fred Iverson Langston. Hester died February 11, 1912 in Webster County, Mississippi. John and Hester are both buried in the old New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Clarkson, Webster County, Mississippi. When we visited there in 1974, Hester had a tombstone but it was broken in half with the top half lying on her grave, and John didn't have a tombstone at all. We had a tombstone made for John, took it back down there, from Middle Tennessee, and placed it next to Hester's grave. We purchased some glue from the monument company and repaired Hester's tombstone and apparently it is still holding.(GMT)

H.M. Wife of J.E. Langston Aug. 30, 1837 Feb. 11, 1912 She was a loyal friend, a noble daughter and a devoted (wife?) (There is more engraving on the tombstone but it is in the middle of the crack where it was broken and is illegible.)
