ELYRIA — Dorothy Marie Zulkoski, 93, of Elyria passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at the Valley View Living Center in Ord. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Zulkoski was born April 15, 1921, in Valley County to Walter and Mary (Plejdrup) Jorgensen. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Nevrkla; and a son, Donnie Nevrkla. Survivors include her husband, Roland of Elyria; a son, Paul of Elyria; two daughters and sons-in law, Janet and Casey Doggett of Berwyn and Joan and Chris Muffly of Niwot, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Diane (Mrs. Donnie) Nevrkla of Ord; a sister and brother-in-law, Ina Fae and Eugene Novak of Ord; and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was raised in the Haskell Creek area of Valley County, where she received her early education and graduated from Ord High School in 1939. Following graduation, Dorothy worked at Cozy Nook Cafe, Carson’s Ice Cream Shop and Goff’s Hatchery. In 1944, she moved to Omaha and attended California Beauty School. She returned to Ord following graduation and worked as a beautician. On Nov. 12, 1945, Dorothy married Richard Nevrkla. To this union a son, Donnie, was born. Richard passed away on Aug. 29, 1948. While living in Ord, Dorothy operated a beauty shop out of her home. On Feb. 26, 1952, she was united in marriage to Roland Zulkoski. She continued to work until moving to the farm near Elyria. Dorothy was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Altar Society, National Council of Catholic Women, WFLA, VFW Auxiliary and Crafting Quilters Club. She enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting and family activities. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Richard Nevrkla; her son, Donnie Nevrkla; a brother, Harlan Jorgensen; and three sisters, Evelyn Jorgensen, Lorraine Goff and Norma Holden.
