Services for Joe Farmer Buckley of Marietta, are set for 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, in the Eastside Baptist Church of Marietta with Pastor Brett Alberda officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta. The son of Thomas Archie Buckley and Zona Naoma Johnston Buckley, Mr. Buckley was born April 14, 1921, in Marietta. He passed away Monday, Feb. 2, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, at the age of 93. A resident of Love County all of his life, Joe attended Marietta Schools. He and the former Ruth Lorraine McKee were married in Marietta on Sept. 6, 1941, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 2014. A veteran of World War II, Joe served from September 1944 to March 1946 with the U.S. Army’s Company “E” 5th Infantry Regiment in campaigns in the Rhineland and Central Europe. For his service, he was awarded the EAME Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He continued to keep in touch with his Army buddies and attended the reunions in Branson, Mo. Joe was very active in community affairs. He was a charter member of Marietta’s Eastside Baptist Church, a member of the Marietta Lions Club, served on the Marietta City Council and was a member of the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department from Dec. 14, 1952 to Feb. 15, 1974. In addition to being a farmer/rancher, Joe also owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station. As a mechanic, he enjoyed tinkering with cars. His hobbies included fishing, watching the History Channel and John Wayne movies, gardening, and picking up pecans. Joe was known by the girls at the Mercy Health Love County Clinic as “Grandaddy.” He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Iris Landrum; and three brothers, Gerald Buckley, Kelley Buckley and Everett Buckley. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe C. and Shirley Buckley of Ardmore; two daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Sonny Mobley of Marietta and Shelley Buckley and David Flores of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Benny A. Buckley of Tulsa; three sisters and brother-in-law, Ila Sue Dvorak of Marietta, Jeannine and Buddy Bryant of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Sally Roberts of Ardmore; 10 grandchildren, Kathy and Chris Kirk, Connie and Richard Barker, Karen Riley, Jim Riley, Shane Reece, Sabrina Buckley, Vanessa and Scott Holland, Billy Robertson, Bruce Mobley and Jamie Roberts; 23 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Serving as casket bearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Jim Riley, Shane Reece, Billy Robertson, Brandon Matthews, Kyle Kirk, Taylor McQueen and Laramy Ford. Honorary bearers are Colt Riley, Sabrina Buckley and Vanessa Holland. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
