North Texas E News Obit “Bonham, Texas - Funeral services for L.Z. Grounds, age 79 of Bonham, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home. Bro. Dan Gurley will officiate. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the Moore Cemetery in Arlington, Texas. Mr. Grounds passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, at Texoma Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 3, 1924, in Celeste, Texas, the son of Charlie Grounds and Zephyr Grounds. He married Rosie Muriel Pannell on April 12, 1946, in Trenton, Texas. He was an electrician with Texas Electric and was retired. He was a member of Boyd Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Grounds served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He served in Northern France, Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe and received the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with four bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He served under General Patton and was discharged in 1946 as a Communications Sergeant. He is preceded in death by son, Bobby Morton; brothers, Weldon Grounds, Harold Dean Grounds and Glen Grounds. L.Z. Grounds is survived by his wife, Rosie Grounds of Bonham, Texas; sons, Tommy Grounds of Foley, Minnesota; Danny Grounds of North Richland Hills, Texas; grandchildren, Tommy Glenn Grounds, Jason Grounds, Corey Grounds, Amy Clark and Michelle Grounds; great-grandchildren, Casey Grounds, Kylee Grounds, Melody Grounds and Harmony Grounds; sisters, Nadine Brewer of Kennedale, Mada Walker of Bonham, Susie Deel of Trenton and Euwana Godwin of Forney; and brother, Bill Grounds of Leonard. Pallbearers will be Tommy Glenn Grounds, Jason Grounds, Corey Grounds, Bobby Grounds, Amy Clark and Michelle Grounds. The family will be at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
