Nellie Clemons Kelton, 101, of McGregor, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2006. Graveside services and interment will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at Waco Memorial Park, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, McGregor, with the Rev. Brian Pendleton officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cole Funeral Home. Nellie was born in Crawford, Texas, to the late James Obie and Sallie M. (Whitlock) Clemons. She attended school in Crawford and was on the basketball team. In 1926, she married Travis B. Kelton in Crawford. Throughout her life, Nellie would tell you that she worked hard. During World War II, she was employed at the Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant in McGregor making bombs and later as a sales lady at Cuenod's Dry Goods. She was always a good homemaker, mother and a very good cook and friend to everyone. In 1942, she moved to McGregor where she made her home until she moved to Waco in 1999 to live with her daughter. Nellie was a Baptist. Preceding her in death was her husband of 70 years, Travis, on December 25, 1996; brothers, Clarice Clemons and J.O. Clemons; and sisters, Ora Sanders, Josie Lee Elder, Velma Smith and Willie Mattlage. Survivors include daughter, Doris Kelton La Hue, of Waco; grandson, Dennis La Hue and wife, Renna, of Arnaudville, La.; great-granddaughter, Rebecca La Hue, of Arnaudville, La.; and great-grandson, Robby La Hue and wife, Jennifer, of Pearland.
