Bio

Fred L. Coleman went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 27, 2014. He was born September 28, 1928 to Benjamin and Hattie Coleman in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. He attended high school in Rush Springs and towards the end of World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country for two years. After his time in the Army he went to work as a civil service employee with most of his time spent at the FAA in Oklahoma City. For nearly 40 years he worked for the FAA as a Logistics Item Manager. During his time at FAA he also worked at TG&Y in sporting goods. After he retired he worked part time at Fox Lumber as a customer service greeter. Fred was a longtime member of Crossroads Cathedral and most recently Harvest Assembly. He was very active in the church. He enjoyed working on and restoring old tube radios. He liked singing and playing his harmonica, playing dominos with his friends at Village on the Park and also liked to hit the casino on occasion, but most of all he cherished the time spent with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Opal of 34 years, two brothers, two sisters and stepson, Mike Jefferson. He is survived by his children, Connie Toby, Keith Coleman and wife Amber, their mother, Irene McClure, step-children, Shirley Preston and Jerry Jefferson, grandchildren, Brent Toby, Ryan Toby and his wife Lacy, great grandchildren, Hayden and Haylie Toby, eight step-grandchildren, sixteen step-great grandchildren, nine step-great great grandchildren as well as many loving extended family and friends. A service in celebration of Fred's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Vondel Smith South Lakes Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and all of the residents at Village on the Park for their care and friendships. Services under the direction of Vondel L. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
