Daughter of William Franklin Amsberry and Harriet Ann Brown of Mason County, West Virginia. Wife of Hiram Talbert Coffman of Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana; married 04 July 1871 in Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa. "The entire community was very greatly grieved when the news of the death of Mrs. Mary J.B. Coffman became known Tuesday morning. While it was known that her life was a low ebb for several days past, yet her taking away was a shock to everyone. Mrs. Mary J.B. Coffman was born February 15, 1849 in Marion County, Iowa and passed away at Mason City, Nebraska, May 25, 1927, aged 78 years, 3 months and 10 days. She was united in marriage on July 4, 1871 with Hiram T. Coffman, a Civil War veteran. To this union were born seven children; namely, Mary, Harriet A., Sarah Catherine, Harry H., Paul, and two boys who passed away in infancy. Of these, Harriet and Sarah died in early womanhood and Paul passed away during the World War while in service overseas. The local American Legion post was named in his memory. Mrs. Coffman, who was the first born child of Mr. and Mrs. William Amsberry, was a pioneer in Nebraska. She and her husband came to Nebraska in 1874 and were in charge of the first post office where St. Libory is now located. In 1880 they moved to this community where they continued to make their home. Mr. Coffman passed away seventeen years ago. Mrs. Coffman was the last surviving charter member of the Mason City Baptist Church. She was always cheerful, kind and charitable, and though never physically robust, she had the type and patience and faith that prolongs life. Those remain to mourn her death are her daughter, Mrs. Mary Kelly, her son Harry, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, several other near relatives and as many friends as she had acquaintances. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church this (Thursday) afternoon, with Rev. R.J. Wynne in charge, and burial was in the Coffman Cemetery north of town. By request made of Mrs. Coffman, Paul Coffman Post, American Legion, had charge of services at the grave."
