James Alexander Joy was the son of George and Martha Joy. James married on April 22, 1849 in Collin County, Texas, to Elizabeth Jane Hart, daughter of Caleb Hart and Sarah "Sally" Lawson. James and Elizabeth Jane had the following children; Albert Newton, Lucinda E., George C. (John C.?), Andrew L., Oliver P., Anice A. "Ann", Eli Franklin, Charles C., and James A. Chesser descendants give James A's mother Martha's maiden name as Martha Nancy Sparks. So far researchers have not been able to verify the maiden name and have not been able to locate a marriage record for Martha and her first husband Daniel Chesser. As reported by Andrew Jackson "Jack" Tidwell, a g-grandson of James A. and Elizabeth Jane, "This stone was broken and only 5 pieces remained. We assembled the pieces for the reading. Some pieces above and below the inscription were missing." Jack Tidwell did the cemetery survey used in this listing.
