Eli Franklin Joy was the son of James Alexander and Elizabeth Jane Hart Joy. Eli married on December 10, 1886, in Burnet County, Texas, to Nellie Elizabeth Tobey, daughter of Nathaniel Wheeler and Winnie Adeline Dennis Tobey. Eli Franklin and Nellie had 13 children; Lorah Dell, Lillie Mae, Murphy Avery, Paul Monroe, Addie Elizabeth, Beulah Viola, Dovie Ann, Nancy Louise, Ethel Lizzie, Ietta Ione, Earl Richardson, Mamie Lee, Blake Lewis.
