Allen Letcher Moore, 90, of 1305 Cincinnati Ave., retired Methodist minister, died in his home Sunday. A resident of El Paso, 18 years, he first came to Texas in 1874 from Alabama, where he was born. The family settled in Bell County and he attended school in Bell Plains. He studied in Centenary College of Lampasas and later attended Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, where he recieved his A.B. Degree in 1902. He also graduated from Summer School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. At the age of 24 he was licensed to preach in the Conference at Corn Hill and Salado Circuit and his first appointments in Northwest Texas Conference was in the Seventh Street Methodist Church in Temple, Texas, in 1902. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. In 1903 he was sent to Granger, Texas, and in 1904 he went to the Eleventh Avenue Methodist Church in Corsicana where he served for four years and completed a building program for the church. He built a church in Vernon, Texas, where he served for four years starting in 1908. Mr. Moore served as secretary of the Northwest Conference from 1910 until 1927. In 1912 he was sent to Stamford, Texas, serving as pastor of St. John's Methodist Church and in 1915 was appointed to the Plainview District where he served four years. He was elected to attend the General Conference of Methodist Churches in Atlanta, Ga., and in 1919 was appointed to serve in Memphis where he stayed three years. In 1928 he was transferred to the New Mexico Conference with head quarters in Roswell. In 1930 he came to the El Paso District and served until 1933, when he was sent to Albuquerque for four years. Mr. Moore was forced to retire because of ill health in 1937. He was a trustee at different times for Seth Ward College, Stamford College, Clarendon College and McMurry College, where he was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity in 1928. Survivors include his widow; a dughter, Mrs. martha Alice Bullington, Madison, N. J.; a son James Allen Moore, Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Monroe Moore, Holland, Texas, and three grand children, all are enroute to attend funeral services. Funeral arrangements were pending with Harding and Orr.
