Joseph R. Petr, 95, born in Lawrence, Neb., on Nov. 8, 1907, to Frank and Anna (Byers) Petr, passed away June 24, 2003. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose (Vap) Petr; sisters, Emma Kucera, Mary Landon and Christina Hajny; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kucera. Survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Pohlmeier and Alice (Everett) Rex; brother-in-law, David (Loretta) Vap; niece with whom he lived for 4 years, Joan (Frank) Javornik; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was godfather to Betty Mertens, Ellen Kistler and Donald, Bernard and James Sykora, Rita Wright, David Vap, Robert and Donna Pohlmeier, Michael Staruh and David and Timothy Pohlmeier. Joseph was employed by Associated Grocers until his retirement in 1970. He was a member of the Shrine of St. Therese and Knights of Columbus Council 557 and numerous church organizations. Viewing, 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Friday, Shrine of St. Therese. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of food and flowers, donations may be made to the Shrine of St. Therese Building Fund.
