Bio
Lloyd Joe Serbus was born on 18 June 1931 on the family farm in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota, to James Joseph and Frances Hlavinka Serbus. Lloyd attended District #12 Country School in rural Henryville Township, and then helped his family on the farm. Lloyd served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 28 July 1952 to 17 July 1954. After his discharge form the Army, Lloyd returned to help with the family farm. Lloyd married Delores Ann Knisley, the daughter of Albert and Lucille Bombeck Knisley, on 01 October 1956, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. They were blessed with two children, Rick and Jodi. Lloyd and Delores made their home and farmed in Henryville Township for 50 years. They were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Bechyn for many years and in their later years; they attended St. John's Catholic Church in Morton. Lloyd enjoyed farming, attending farm auctions, collecting scrap metal, and adding to his collections of caps, belt buckles, tools, pens and pencils. His family fondly remembered how he loved being called "Grandpa" and truly loved taking his grandsons to Farmfest. Lloyd had a special knack for remembering past farming details and dates of memorable events, and enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors and reminiscing about "the old days." Lloyd Joe Serbus, of rural Redwood Falls, died at the age of 76 on Thursday, 12 July 2007 at the Redwood Falls Hospital after a three-month battle with cancer. Lloyd was survived by his wife, Delores; son, Rick Serbus of Redwood Falls; daughter, Jodi (Dennis) Mellies of Hector; grandchildren, Jeremy and Jessica Serbus and Melissa, Josh, and Kyle Mellies; brother, John (Louisa) Serbus of Olivia, and sisters, Martha (Eugene) Tauer of Springfield and Rita Schroepfer of Olivia. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Albert Serbus, and brother-in-law, Jim Schroepfer. Interment was in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery at Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota.
