Bio
Frances Rose Hlavinka was born in Czechoslovakia on 10 April 1898. On 07 September 1926, in Scappoose, Oregon, Frances Rose married James Joseph Serbus, the son of John William and Mary Kojetin Serbus. James and Frances raised five children, John Francis, James Albert, Lloyd Joe, Martha Marie, and Rita Frances. The family lived on a farm in Henryville Township, Renville County, for about 30 years. They moved to Olivia in 1955 when they retired from farming. Frances Rose was a member of the Bohemian Rosary Society at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. Frances Rose Hlavinka Serbus died on Monday, 05 December 1960, at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm, Brown County, Minnesota. She had been ill for two weeks and death was due to a blood clot following surgery. Frances was survived by her husband, James Joseph; five children; ten grandchildren; brother, Joseph Hlavinka and sister, Mrs. Matt Hobizal, both from Oregon; and two sisters, Mrs. Albert Rejsek and Ms. Victoria Hlavinka from Texas. Two brothers and one sister preceded Frances in death. The funeral service for Frances Rose was held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, 09 December 1960, in St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia; the Reverend Father Stanley Skluzacek officiated. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Pallbearers were John E. and Henry Goblish, Leo Michael Goblirsch, James Rejsek, William Sebus, Jr., and Francis J. Serbus.
