Walter Leslie, second son of William P. and Emma Hughes Nelson, was born July 18, 1892 and made his departure to a better land on August 25, 1966, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and seven days. When but a small lad, he with his parents and brother Oscar, moved to the homestead six miles north of Burwell, where he grew to manhood. Walter was a lover of horses and all livestock. In 1913, the call of the West appealed to Walter and he took his leave from Garfield County. He took his personal belongings and a favorite saddle horse, placed them on a train and went to Colorado. There he worked on a ranch for quite some time. Bowers (Geneva) of Burwell, a number of nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends. In 1957 when failing health overtook Walter, the Nelsons moved into town where they lived at the time of his death. Walter was a person of unique personality. Walter was born in a Christian home and early in life accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. He was baptized and was a member of the Christian Church in Burwell. It is not far away, That happy Land... To which our dear ones go As God has planned. They're near as memory... As love...as prayer... Our hearts, wiser than eyes, Can see them there...
