Funeral services for Raymond Hottovy of Morris, MN will be held Monday, July 14, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Raymond Jerome Hottovy, son of Charles Sr. and Rose (Moravec) Hottovy, was born May 6, 1927, in Plum Creek Township, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, NE. Ray attended the parish's school, graduating as his class president in May 1945. Later that summer, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a finance clerk during World War II. Ray received an honorable discharge in February 1947. On October 6, 1949, he married Marcella Hraban in Bee, NE. Following their marriage, the couple and their growing family began farming near Dwight. In 1957, Ray and Marcella moved to Minnesota, and purchased a farm site south of Hancock. Twelve years later, they moved to Morris and Ray continued farming until retirement in 1991. For the next decade, he was a school bus driver for Morris Area Schools covering the longest daily route for the district. He drove to hundreds of sporting events and field trips until 2004 and continued to tell stories of the children and their teachers until his death. Ray was a member of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Morris. At the parish, he served on the Knights of Columbus and was an usher. In addition, Ray was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and AmVets. He read hundreds of history books, was an avid gardener, loved telling stories, playing cards, plus fishing and hunting. Ray and his family enjoyed trips to visit relatives and friends in Nebraska, and spent many summers at his lake cabin on Ten Mile Lake near Fergus Falls, MN. During his youth, he was an avid supporter of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but when he moved to Minnesota, Ray converted to a fan of the Golden Gophers. In addition, he enjoyed the Minnesota Twins and Morris Area High School Athletics. Ray was very proud of his family's Czechoslovakian heritage. He died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. He lived to the age of 87 years. Ray is survived by his children: Mel Hottovy of Morris, Judy (Dave) Marty of Andover, Cindy (Steve) Poppe of Morris, Jeff Hottovy of Morris, Jackie (Robert) Yehle of Coon Rapids and Todd (Elizabeth) Hottovy of Morris; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister: Rose Klein of David City, NE. He was preceded in death by his wife: Marcella; son: Ron; parents; brothers: Adolph, Charles, Emil, Reynold and Richard and sisters: Lucille Eiting and Agnes Fiala.
