Cortez Journal, Cortez, Colorado Ruth Irene Kibel Funeral services for Ruth Irene Kibel, a longtime resident of Dove Creek, were held Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at the Dove Creek First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Burial took place at the Dove Creek Cemetery. Ruth, the eldest of nine children, was born March 6, 1929, in Kingstown, Kans., to David A. and Ruby Irene (Stice) Smith. She passed away at her home in Dove Creek on Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the age of 70. On May 15, 1944, Ruth married Ross C. Kibel in Sharon Springs, Kans. They moved to the Slickrock / Dove Creek area in the early 1950s. There she raised her 14 children. She was a loving wife and mother. Ruth's other interests included crocheting and sewing and was involved with the Cahone Recreation Center. Ruth leaves behind eight sons, Gerald Kibel, and his wife, Leatha Kaie, of Lakewood, Colo., Wayne Kibel, and his wife, Dorothy, of Grand Junction, Colo., Dale Kibel, of Elko, Nev., David Kibel, of Grand Junction, Colo., Ross Kibel, of Cortez, Gary Kibel and Larry Kibel, both of Dove Creek, and Tony Kibel, of Grand Junction, Colo.; six daughters, Ruby Shore, and her husband, Alvin, of Bosque Farms, N.M., Phyllis Mulvey, of Sacramento, Calif., Darlene Perkins, of Cañon City, Colo., Hazel Pursse, of Denver, Colo., Ruth Wassemiller, and her husband, Jerry, of Oakley, Kans., and Verna Meyers, of Canton, Kansas. She has 29 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by five brothers, Dan Smith, of Alliance, Neb., Paul Smith, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., Raymond Smith, of Abilene, Kans., Gene Smith, of Yuma, Colo., and Dean Smith, of Goodland, Kans.; and two sisters, Helen Paramore, of Little Rock, Kans., and Florence Beal, of Brigsdale, Colo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Kibel, in November of 1982, and by a brother, Arthur Smith. Services were under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
