Funeral services for Cortez resident, Dale Andrew Kibel Sr. were held Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Cremation followed. Pastor Anthony Maes of the Cortez Church of the Nazarene officated. Dale was born on June 3, 1948 in Parks NE. to Ross Conrad and Ruth Irene (Smith) Kibel. He passed away at his home in Cortez at the age of 55. Dale loved stock car racing and was a member of the Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speed Way and raced car #45. He was able to race next to his sons at the speed way the last two years. Dale's other favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, painting and scrimshaw. Surviving Dale are his children, Denise Dale Kibel, William Ross Kibel, Dale A. "Jay" Kibel Jr. and wife, Valerie, and Stacey Lynn Kibel all of Cortez. He leaves nine grandchildren: his brothers and sisters; Gerald Kibel of Lakewood, Wayne Kibel of Grand Junction, Ross Kibel of Cortez, Gary Kibel and Larry Kibel both of Dove Creek, Tony Kibel of Grand Junction, Phyllis Burch of Sacramento CA, Ruby Shore of Bosque Farms NM, Hazel Prusse of Denver, Elaine Wassemiller of Oakley KS, Verna Meyer of KS, and Darlene Perkins-Davis of Canon City CO, as well as his children's mother, Uarda Ann Kriner. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother David Kibel in 2003.
