William M. Smith, 73, died at the family residence in Simmesport, La., at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 1942. He is survived by his wife; five sons, Ralph of Marksville, Jessie of Bachelor, La., Dewey of Oklahoma, Robert and Eddie Smith of Alexandria; two daughters, Mrs. Essie Barnidge of Alexandria and Mrs. Uma Carter of Lecompte; three brothers, George of Marksville, James and Charles Smtih of New Orleans; three sisters, Mrs. Rosalie Guillory of Bunkie, Mrs. Marion Brouillette of Marksville, and Mrs. Emily Guillot of Echo, La.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jimmie Smith of Shreveport. Funeral services were held at the Echo Catholic Church at 3 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, by Rev. Herman Couvillion. Interment was in the Echo cemetery under the direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home of Marksville. Pallbearers were R.W. Smith, Dewitt Smith, Eddie Smith, John Smith, Percy Smith and Leon Brouillette. No other document is this letter to be found.*** Married Isma Virginie Ponthieu - October 5, 1887 (Avoyelles Marriage Record Book E, Page 665) had a relationship and several children with Azelina Ponthieux Bordelon Married Angelina Saucier - August 2, 1924 (Avoyelles Marriage Record Book 8, Page 391) Isma Ponthieu divorced William Smith after "putting up with 25 years of adultery" (Avoyelles Civil Docket #5870).
