Bio

MERLE MARTIN - Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away January 11, 2006 at the age of 79. Merle was born September 15, 1926 in Sulphur Bluff, TX in an 1870s log cabin which was relocated to Heritage Park in Sulphur Springs in 1976. Merle served in the army during World War II. He was a City of Dallas Park Policeman for 28 years, retiring in 1986, Merle was happiest building in his workshop, watching baseball on TV and taking pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn. He leaves us all with the legacy of love and devotion His parents, Gilbert and Lillie Martin, brothers Jack, J. A. and Frankie Martin and son-in-law Dennis Smith preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Ruth Martin, Sons: Dennis Martin, Garland, Ricky Martin, Richardson. Daughters; Carla Smith, Garland, Brenda and husband John Wheeler, Dallas, Sherry and husband John Collinsworth, Fairview. Grandchildren, Andy, Alex and Allison Smith, Justin Lauren and Addison Wheeler, Kristen and Camille Collinsworth, Joshua Martin, Renay and husband Kyle McAfee, Alvarado, and Angela Martin: Great-Grandaughter Kyleigh McAfee. Brother, Earl W. and wife Virginia Martin, Sulphur Springs. Sisters, Erma Fay Lile, Mt. Pleasant and Mary Ann Carrell, Longview. There are countless other family, friends and neighbors who will miss his help, and influence in their lives, The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday January 13th at Grove Hill Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, January 14th at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Hill Funeral Home with Joe Walker officiating. Interment in Garden of Faith at Grove Hill Cemetery.
