Bio

Fort Bend Herald, May 18, 2010: Johnny Frank Sykora, 69, of Richmond, born at home to Fort Bend sharecroppers on May 30, 1940, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 surrounded by family. A machinist who ran his own shop for more than 20 years, he enjoyed spending time at home with his family, as well as landscaping, gardening and building things, such as two barns and a smokehouse. He also enjoyed classic cars, including his 1957 Chevy 2-door hard top. Johnny was a big James Dean fan from before Dean was killed, even naming two of his children from the Dean movie "Giant" and taking a family vacation to the remains of the set of the movie in Marfa in the early 1970's. Elvis and John Wayne were also huge personal favorites. He was gentle, loving, kind, dependable and accepting of others; and he will be greatly missed. Johnny is preceded in death by his son, Jett Wade Sykora. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara; children, Chris Sykora and wife, Kim, Jenny Sykora and husband, Ateng, Scott Sykora, Marla Rice and husband, Donovan, Reata Knieriemen and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Kyle Kinchen, Rhett and Tyler Sykora, Emma, Audrey, Charlotte and Leah Rice, Avery Dawson and Addison and Allie Knieriemen; along with other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will include Marty Stavinoha, Dale Lindemann, David Lindemann, Malcolm Lindemann, Daryl Lindemann and Carrol Fajkus. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Friday, May 21, 2010 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg with Father Drew Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M., with a rosary being recited at 7:00 P. M., Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.
