Bio

Thanks to contributor #48796369 Ruby A. James, 83, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Haven House in Wahoo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery at Doniphan. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. James was born on July 30, 1915, at Grand Island to Jacob and Mary (Harshfield) Beekman. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. She married Orlando "Cap" James on June 2, 1937, at Hastings. The couple lived in Grand Island. Mrs. James was a homemaker and mother. She also was a production worker, producing serum, and worked with small animals for Norden Labs. She worked in Grand Island for 26 years and in Lincoln for four years. She also worked in the kitchen for the Norris school district in Firth for 17 years. Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Mrs. David) Prokesh of Wahoo and Cynthia (Mrs. Arvin) Huenink of Lincoln; one son, Melvin James of Olympia, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice James of Wolbach; and two brothers, Merl Beekman of Hotchkiss, Colo., and Willis Beekman of Grand Island. She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and one sister. The Grand Island Independent, Oct. 27, 1998
