Bio

Alice M. James, 90, of Wolbach died on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island. She was born on March 19, 1920, in Hall County to Jacob and Mary (Harshfield) Beekman. Alice married Pat James of Grand Island on July 25, 1936, in St. Paul. He died in January 1995. Her childhood was spent in the Grand Island and Doniphan area, and she attended Grand Island Public Schools. Alice and Pat lived for several years in Grand Island, where Alice was a working wife and mother. They were parents of four daughters and one son. Alice was employed by Twin Rivers and Fairmont Foods. In 1947, they moved to Wolbach and opened James Produce. Alice served as the Wolbach Village Clerk for several years and had a seasonal income tax service after her retirement from the family business. Alice was an active member of the Wolbach Methodist Church, where she taught Bible school and Sunday school and served as the church treasurer. She was also a member of the local chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary. Alice enjoyed knitting, crocheting and visiting with friends and relatives. In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and two sisters. [Information excerpted from obituary published in The Grand Island Independent on 12/2/2010]
