From The Palmer Journal, September 14 & 21, 1961, transcribed by Linda Berney: Mrs. Richard Burkhardt Dies Tuesday Night - Mrs. Richard Burkhardt, 33, died about 9 p.m. Tuesday night in St. Paul hospital where she had been taken last Saturday. Mrs. Burkhardt suffered a stroke at Wolbach Saturday afternoon following the Peetz-Burkhardt wedding which she and her husband and children had attended.... Verna Esther Beekman was born November 20, 1928 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Mary and Jacob Beekman. She received her education in the Grand Island Public Schools. On May 5, 1948, she was united in marriage to Richard Burkhardt in Palmer, Nebraska. They located on a farm 6 miles west of Palmer where they made their home until the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, Richard, two daughters, Rogene and Kathleen, both at home, her father, Jacob Beekman, Grand Island, two sisters, Mrs. Alice James, Wolbach, Nebraska, and Mrs. Ruby James, Grand Island, Nebraska; five brothers, Marvin of Axtell, Nebraska, Arnold, Grand Island, Merl, Leadville, Colorado, Robert, Grand Island and Willis of Broken Bow. She was preceded in death by her mother, one son Richard, who died in infancy, and two brothers. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer.
