The Wolbach Messenger, Thursday, Mar 11, 1999, Page 8: Eva M. Bahensky Services Held-- Eva M. Bahensky, 87, died March 7, 1999 at St. Paul. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 9, 1999 at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul, Ellen Campbell officiated. Bernie Johnson sang "Just A closer Walk With Thee" and "Whispering Hope". Edith Van Pelt was the organist. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Active pallbearers were Ted Rall, Ross Bahensky, Nathan Bahensky, Jerry Grossart, Mark Bahensky, and Richard Bahensky. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Bahensky, Larry Jepson, Tom Bahensky. Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul was in charge of arrangements. Eva M. Bahensky, daughter of Richard and Emma Berny Grossart, was born May 11, 1911, at Wolbach. She grew up in Wolbach and attended Wolbach schools, graduating from the Wolbach High School. She then worked for the Wolbach Creamery and Wolbach Telephone Co. On January 23, 1928, she was united in marriage to Raymond Bahensky at Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Gage Valley area. they also operated the Midway Service Station and Cafe southeast of St. Paul until 1932. They also operated a hatchery business in McCook. The family lived briefly in California and then returned to the Gage Valley area in the fall of 1939. They operated a truck garden, raising vegetables for sale with three acres of tomatoes and forty acres of potatoes. The couple began farming again in the Gage Valley area in 1941. In the early 1960's the couple moved to St. Paul but continued to farm. For many years they owned and operated the St. Paul Liquor. In 1976 the couple retired. Mr. Bahensky died on November 28, 1997. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Paul and the church circle having served as circle president. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of St. Paul and the Gage Valley Extension Club. She had served on the election board for many years. She is survived by three sons, Richard and Gene, both of St. Paul and Dan of Kearney, a daughter Judy (Mrs. Ellis) Rall of Littleton, Colorado; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; two brothers, Joe and Glen Grossart; and one sister, Erma McLain. Contributor: Linda Berney (47343179)
