Bio

Roman Anton Holecek, 95, of West, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, conducted by Msgr. Isidore Rozycki and the Rev. Michael Ajewole. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Roman was born in Tours, Texas, to the late Andrew and Katherine (Wolfe) Holecek. He attended schools in Tours prior to attending Santa Clara University in California. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. On Nov. 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Emma Ann Deiterman in Santa Clara, Calif. Roman was a salesman for the Saint Claire Laundry for many years before retiring in 1987. He and Emma then moved back to Tours, Texas. He was a very faithful member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. Roman was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819 and the Model A Ford Club in Santa Cruz, Calif., where he served as past president. He enjoyed playing golf, attending yard and estate sales, playing dominoes, watching baseball, and rebuilding Model A Fords and old bicycles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma on March 5, 2005; brothers, Andrew Holecek, Victor Holecek, Jody Holecek, Francis Holecek and Lawrence Holecek; and sisters, Christine Holecek, Gertrude Jupe, and Hattie Holecek. Survivors include daughters, Stephanie Erdrich and husband, Mark, of Elk Grove, Calif., and JoAnn Manchester, of Aquilla; grandchildren, Katherine Murphy and Dylan Manchester; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
