Leo Niewohner, 78, of Lyons died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. He was born Oct. 6, 1934, near Snyder to William and Elizabeth (Hunke) Niewohner. He attended Snyder Elementary and Snyder High School. He served with the 11th Calvary Division of the U.S. Army from August 1956 to July 1958. He married Yvonne Kampschnieder on June 3, 1959, in Howells. They moved to rural Lyons, where he farmed until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons. Survivors include: his wife, Yvonne of Lyons; sons, John (Joan) and Mark (Lois), all of Lyons; daughters, Laura of Colorado Springs, Colo., Beverly (Jim) Harvey of Lincoln and Becky (Kyle) Dailey of Wahoo; sisters, Betty Cech of Howells, Rose Marie (Jim) McNamara and Rita (Vern) Ortmeier, all of Beemer, Jan (Lorin) Batenhorst of Wisner, Mary Ann Kluthe and Marcie (Mel) Ortmeier, all of Dodge; brothers, Irwin (Gerri) of Onawa, Iowa, Daniel (Jeanette) of Scribner, Virgil (Karen) of Dodge and Bernard (Betty Kay) of West Point; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother and brother-in-law. The funeral will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons with the Rev. Paul Ortmeier officiating. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery with military honors by Robert Klase-Rogers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7998 and Harvey Lenig American Legion Post 83.
