Bio

Funeral services for Pauline Louise Finke, 94, of Morgan, were held Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian, with Jim Carter officiating. Interment followed in Valley Mills Cemetery. Finke died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. She was born Feb. 18, 1911, in Valley Mills, a daughter of the late Homer and Rosa Ella Billing Darby. She was educated in Valley Mills. On Oct. 30, 1935, she married Willie Ernest (Bill) Finke in Valley Mills. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1985. In 1941, the couple moved from Valley Mills to Morgan. She was a member of the Morgan First Baptist Church, where she was active as long as her health permitted. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and served for 25 years as a member of the Women's Missionary Union. Finke loved gardening and working in the yard. For many years, she had a large vegetable garden, and enjoyed sharing the produce with friends, neighbors, and relatives. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. Finke is survived by daughters Ann Schlidge of Los Gatos, Calif., and Ruth and husband Mel Young of Dallas; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Calvin Darby of Waco; sister Margie Garrett of Hubbard; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers were Jimmy Abel, Ralph Patrick, Douglas Thiele, Conrad Robison, Marvin Robison, Gary Darby, Glen Darby, Ronald Garrett, and Ross Thornton. Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, was in charge of arrangements.
