Bio
Calvin Edwin Darby, 83, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at a Dallas hospital following a brief illness. A chapel service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth L. Boatman officiating. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home in Waco. Calvin was born in Valley Mills, Texas, to the late Homer H. and Rosa Ella Billing Darby, the seventh of eight children. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He married Barbara Taylor in Waco on May 14, 1954. Calvin retired from the Waco Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1980, following 23 years of service. He was an avid gardener and Methodist. Calvin was preceded in death by five sisters; and one brother. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara, of Waco; sons, Gary Darby, of Sunnyvale, and Glenn Darby and wife, Elizabeth, of Plano; grandchildren, Clint and Brady Darby, Robert Jeffcoat, and Leah and Erica Essenburg; sister, Margie Garrett, of Bayou City; brother-in-law Charles Taylor and wife, Beverly, of Eddy; sisters-in-law, Donna Latham and husband, Danny, of Farmersville, and Mary Elkins, of Lorena; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
