Bio
According to the 1870 US Federal Census, Nancy C Howle was seven years old and living with her mother, Maryann Elizabeth "Malissa" Moore Howle, and siblings in Beat 6, Tallapoosa County, Alabama. This would make her year of birth 1862 rather than 1865. She had a younger sister, Sarah, who was five at the time. Her father, Thomas E. L. Howle, was killed at the Civil War Battle of Ezra Church near Atlanta in July of 1864. Other siblings listed on the census were: Hampton (17) Jane (15), Thomas (12) and Perry (10).
