The widow of Thomas E. L. Howle, who was killed at the Civil War Battle of Ezra Church near Atlanta in July of 1864. Her son, Thomas Paxton Howle, and daughter, Nancy Howle, are also buried at Van Alstyne Cemetery. She was also known as Maryann Elizabeth "Malissa" Howle. Her husband's body was left on the field at Ezra Church, and never returned home for burial. He does have a memorial stone at the family burying ground in Elmore County, Alabama, the County Line Cemetery, in the extreme northeast part of that county.
