Linwood, July 17 - Funeral services for Josef Macholan, who died at his home two miles west of Linwood on Wednesday, July 11, after illness of a few weeks with heart trouble, were held from St. Mary's Catholic church on Friday morning, July 13, conducted by Rev. Alcuin Kasny. Frank Ustohal, Frank Barcal, Anton Barcal, Jim Vech, William Lanspa and James Bunda were the pallbearers. Burial was in the Linwood Catholic cemetery. A large number of friends and relatives from Abie, Bruno and David City attended the funeral. Mr. Macholan was in his 72nd year. He was born at Lytostrovec, Moravia, September 8, 1862, son of Josef and Anna Macholan. He came from Bohemia with his parents at age of 19 years and was a prosperous farmer until his death. He was married at Abie on November 21, 1888, to Miss Aloise Komarek, who survives him. To them were born seven children, five sons and two daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Shonka, died 12 years ago. The surviving children are Joseph W. Macholan, John F. Macholan, Stephen Macholan, Rudolf Macholan, Louis Macholan and Mrs. Winifred Zakovec of Fremont. Besides his widow and children, Mr. Macholan leaves ten grandchildren, two brothers, John Macholan of Crete and Frank Macholan of Abie, and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Peltz of Linwood, Mrs. Christina Henry of Norfolk and Mrs. Julius Ustohal of Hemingford. Mr. Macholan was a man who deeply loved his home and was a devoted husband and father.
