Carl Lester Real, age 92, passed away on October 15, 2012 in Seattle, WA. He was born April 14, 1920 in Ansley, NE to Ivory and Harriet (McCullough) Real. He married Maxine Ruth Montgomery in 1943 and spent most of his adult life in Whatcom County. A Sargent in the U.S. Army, he served in the European Theater during World War II. After moving to Whatcom County, Carl was employed at the Bellingham Coal Mine, Bellingham Shipyard, Bell Boy Boats and worked as a foreman at Ershigs Inc. until his retirement. He was one of the founders and volunteers of the Whatcom County District #8 Marietta Fire Department. Carl enjoyed fixing whatever was broken, gardening and was an avid football and baseball fan. Preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, in 2010; his parents; 8 brothers; and 2 sisters. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, www.americanheart.org. A graveside service will be held Monday, October 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park, Moles Farewell Tributes, 5700 Northwest Dr. in Ferndale, WA, with reception following.
