Bio

Also known as Frank Fleming. Settled in Butler County, Nebr. with his parents in 1874. According to one history, his father Frank Kožišek "came to Wisconsin in the early sixties and served two years in the civil War, where he changed his name to Fleming. A soldier that name was killed in action, and as the name Kožišek was hard to pronounce, the others gave him the dead man's name, which he and his children used. However, strange to relate, his grandchildren have again taken the name of Kožišek" (Rose Rosicky, A History of Czechs (Bohemians) in Nebraska (1929), p. 201). ''''''''''''''' Brainard Clipper (Brainard, Nebr.), December 16, 1920, p. 8, cols. 1 & 2 BRUNO ITEMS The body of Frank Kozisek, who died of heart failure at his home near Van Tassel, Wyoming, was brought to Bruno, Monday evening, his sons Charles and William accompanying the remains. The funeral took place Tuesday morning, from the Catholic church, Rev. Father Zalud having charge of the services, and burial was at the Catholic cemetery beside the body of his wife, who died here about four years ago, following a brief illness when she and her husband came to attend the funeral of Mr. Kozisek's [mother]. A large number of relatives and friends were present at the funeral. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to them in their bereavement. Among those from a distance attending the Kozisek funeral, Tuesday were John and James Kozisek, families and John Foster of Bee; Frank G. Kozisek and family, Mr. Raymond Rerucha, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kozisek and Jake Bongers of Brainard; William and Ed Jindrich and families of David City.
