Bio

Emma L. Eisenbraun of Creighton, South Dakota, died on Saturday, June 26, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood at the age of 94. Emma Louise Willuweit was born May 22, 1905, in a sod house on their farm near Herrick, South Dakota, the daughter of Ferdinand Albert and Johanna (Kost) Willuweit. This was the year that Gregory County came open for homesteading. Emma was baptized July 9, 1905, in the Evangelical Lutheran Zion Congregation in Naper, Nebraska, by the Rev. Krenzien, the Lutheran Pastor of Butte, Nebraska. She was confirmed on September 24, 1923, in her home near Creighton, South Dakota, by Rev. T. Kleinhans of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Emma was united in marriage to Herbert Eisenbraun on March 14, 1923, in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Creighton. To this union were born 10 children. Emma was the last of the original Eisenbrauns who homesteaded in the Creighton area, being the spouse of Herbert. They lived near Creighton for 16 years and in 1939 they moved onto a ranch near the Cheyenne River, northwest of Creighton. They lived there until 1948 when they moved into Wall. Her husband, Herbert, preceded her in death on January 22, 1965. Emma was a former member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Creighton and a present member of the First Lutheran Church of Wall, where she served on Mary Martha Group of the LWML. She was an avid gardener and loved to write letters and enjoyed being a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Grateful for having shared her life are her six sons, Delbert Eisenbraun and his wife, Karen, of Wall; Ivan Eisenbraun of Wall; Les Eisenbraun and his wife, Marian, of Riverside, California; Paul Eisenbraun and his wife, Kathy, of Columbus, Indiana; Herbert Eisenbraun and his wife, Janet, of Alliance, Ohio; and Andrew Eisenbraun and his wife, Jo, of Wall; three daughters and their spouses, Annette and Willie Geigle of Wall; Esther and Guy Carsten of Rapid City; and Wanda and Steve Goodrich of Rapid City; 29 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many who called her "Grandma"; one brother, Robert Willuweit of Stewart, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Herbert Eisenbraun, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Helms; her parents; two brothers, Julius and Theodore Willuweit; and two sisters, Anna Kerner and Bertha Sieler.
