Bio
Robert E. "Bobby" Benner, 75, of the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown, and formerly of Port Royal, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Brookline. Born on Dec. 13, 1936, in Port Royal, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Mahlon A. and Mary E. (Comp) Benner. Surviving are: his siblings, Dolores A. Singer, of Port Royal, Alton H. Benner and his wife, Mary, of Bloomsburg, Carleen H. Weiand and her husband, Gary, of Lewistown, Linda L. Zimmerman, of Mechanicsburg, Nancy K. Shirk, of McVeytown, David W. Benner, of Camp Hill; and he leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. One brother, Harold Benner, one infant brother, Larue Benner, and one sister, Constance Baylor, preceded him in death. Mr. Benner was a Protestant by faith, and in his younger years, had attended the Port Royal Presbyterian Church. Earlier in life, he was employed by Goodman's Feed Mill, Port Royal, and later worked at Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc., Mifflintown, after which he provided lawn care services, and he will long be remembered for fulfilling his lifelong passion which was taking care of horses. Bobby loved music; however, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, from Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Crystal Lyde officiating. Interment followed in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Viewing was held Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the funeral home.
