CURTISS, EVA—Mrs. John Curtiss of Lincoln, the former Eva Huston of Geneva, died Sunday at a Lincoln hospital, after a long illness. Mrs. Curtiss was born in this county and graduated from Geneva high school in 1913. Her husband, John E. Curtis, also formerly of Geneva is director of public relations for the Consumers Public Power general office and prominent in Nebraska civic affairs. Mrs. Curtiss had lived in Lincoln since 1919. A graduate of Peru State Norma, she taught in Geneva and Lincoln public schools. She was past president of the Nebraska State Chapter of P. E. O., a charter member and past president of Chapter D. L., P. E. O., past president of the Serosis club, past president of the Lotus club, and past Chapeau of the 8 and 40. She served six years on the executive board of the Y. W. C. A. and as an officer of Girls’ State since its organization in 1929. She was president of Girls’ State from 1950 to 1953, and was a member of the advisory board. Mrs. Curtiss was also a member of the Department Finance Committee of the American Legion Auxiliary, of Temple Chapter of Eastern Star and Trinity Methodist church, where she was past president of the W. S. C. S. During World War II she was chairman of the Lancaster County Red Cross and was a member of the Lancaster County Red Cross board. Surviving are her husband, John E., daughter, Ruth Ann Swalley of Brentwood, Mo.; two sisters, Floy McCashland of Geneva, and Ada Price of Cozad; and two brothers, Frank Huston of Sedro Valley, Wash., and Clarence Huston of Aledo, Ill. Funeral services were held at Lincoln at 2 p. m. Tuesday, with interment in the Geneva Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 5 July 1956 page 1.
