Bio

HUSTON, THOMAS OTHO—Thomas O. Huston was born October 4, 1857 in Mercer county, Illinois. He departed this life Sunday, December 27, 1942, aged 83 years and 2 months. September 1, 1880, in Mercer county, Illinois, he married Viella Bear, who preceded him in death sixteen years ago. Immediately after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Huston came to Fillmore county, Nebraska, and located on a farm six miles west of Geneva, where Mr. Huston and his devoted wife endured the hardships and privations of the pioneer. He was engaged in farming, fruit raising and stock raising. To this union six children were born: Joseph, who died at an early age, Floy McCashland of Geneva, Frank Huston of Sedro Wooley, Wash., Clarence Huston of New Boston, Ill., Eva Curtiss of Lincoln and Ada Price of Cozad. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Jennie Schrader, Aledo, Ill., and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family left the farm in 1912 and moved to Geneva, where Mr. Huston had since maintained his home. He was a resident of Fillmore county for more than sixty-three years. Mr. Huston was a devoted Christian, having been a member of the Methodist church all his life. During the early days he helped to establish and maintain the Asbury church, a Methodist rural church in his community. Later he took an active part in the work of the Methodist church in Geneva. He was also a regular attendant at Masonic meetings and was several years ago awarded a medal for fifty years of masonic membership and service in that organization. During the past few years he was handicapped by the burden of failing health and the infirmities of his advanced age. Funeral services were held at the Hrubesky funeral home, Tuesday afternoon, December 29, at 2:30. Rev. W. B. Pardun officiated. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
