Bio

Olga Winkler Hlavenka Straten, age 96, of West passed away Thursday morning, October 3, 2002 at West Rest Haven. A rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Martin's Cemetery near Tours. The family received visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Straten was born on October 3, 1906, one of three children to Ferdinand and Ludmilla (Berger) Winkler in St. John, Texas, near Schulenberg. She married William Hlavenka on February 12, 1923. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1937. She then married Anton B. Straten on March 2, 1959. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1977. She worked for several manufacturing firms in Waco throughout the years. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening, flowers, playing dominoes and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Ann's Altar-Rosary Society, and KJZT Society 11 in West. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption of West. She is also preceded in death by one sister, Agnes Deiterman; and one brother, Fred Winkler. She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Mynarcik and husband Louis of West; a son, Bill T. Hlavenka, Sr. and wife Gladys of Robinson; four grandchildren, Ellouise Mynarcik of West, Louis Mynarcik Jr. and wife Tonja of Lorena, Bill T. Hlavenka Jr. and wife Kelly of robinson, and Joey Hlavenka of Round Rock; four great-grandchildren, Nathan John Mynarcik of Lorena, Raychel Maria Mynarcik of Lorena and Tiffany Grace Hlavenka and William Thomas Hlavenka IV both of Robinson; four stepchildren, Mary Ann Kubacak and husband, George, Irene Glomb, Louise Podsednik and husband Robert, and Evelyn Gerik and husband Johnny, all of West; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends at West Rest Haven. Pallbearers were Bill Hlavenka Jr., Joey Hlavenka, louis Mynarcik Jr., Nathan Mynarcik, Arthur Deiterman and Alfred (Tommy Hlavenka. Honorary pallbearers were Ellouise Mynarcik, Raychel Maria Mynarcik, Tiffany Grace Hlavenka and William Thomas Hlavenka IV. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Rest Haven or the charity of your choice. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
