William "Bill" Thomas Hlavenka, Sr., 79, of Robinson, passed away Friday, May 9, 2008, in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waco with Fr. Albert Laforet as celebrant. Burial will follow at Robinson Cemetery, Wuebker addition. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with visitation following. Bill was born near West, Texas, to William and Olga Hlavenka. He was raised in West where he attended local schools and enjoyed playing football. Bill joined the United States Army and then proceeded to the National Guard, where he retired after 22 years of service. In the early 1950s, he worked for William Cameron Mills, and later he worked for and retired from General Tire after 30 years. Gladys Gaeke and Bill were married on Aug. 12, 1963, in Waco, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They have resided in nearby Robinson since 1976, where he was an active member of the Robinson Volunteer Fire Department. In addition, Bill was a founding parishioner and active member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco and a member of the American Legion Post 478 of West. The nature and outdoors were always of interest to Bill. However, his primary enjoyment came from his beloved three grandchildren, Tiffany, William Thomas "Tommy" IV and Joshua. Fishing and hunting with his sons, grandchildren, and friends were amongst his favorite pastimes. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Gladys; sons, William Thomas "Bill", Jr., and wife, Kelly, of Robinson, and Joey and wife, Tracy, of Round Rock; granddaughter, Tiffany; grandsons, Tommy and Joshua; sister, Eleanor and husband, Louis Mynarcik, Sr., of West; as well as other relatives and many friends.
