Norman "Cowboy" Uptmor, age 85, of Alvarado, formerly of Tours, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014 at Avalon Memory Care in McKinney. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by Deacon Ronnie Sykora, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. Michael Ajewole as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery. Norman was born October 9, 1928 in Tours, the son of Fred J. and Annie (Schroeder) Uptmor. He attended school in Tours and West. On November 9, 1949 he was united in marriage to Allean Fickey in Waco. Allean preceded him in death on April 3, 2009. Norman was a team leader for General Motors in Arlington for over 32 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Mansfield. Norman was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local #276. He enjoyed farming, tending his cattle and gardening. Norman is also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Norman E. Uptmor Jr.; an infant daughter, Nancy Uptmor; and brothers, Ambrose Uptmor, Maurice Uptmor and Freddie Uptmor. Survivors include a son, David Uptmor and wife Debbie of Cornersville, TN; a daughter, Linda Precopia and husband Steve of Sherman; brothers, Aubrey Uptmor, Laurel Uptmor, and Billy Uptmor; sisters, Clara Grones, Jancie Altus and Betty Svrcek; 9 grandchildren, Patricia Uptmor, Cindy Roberts, Gina McCreary, Kristin Stanley, Lauren Precopia, Zachary Precopia, Cody Uptmor, Casey Uptmor and Cassidy Uptmor; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Casey Uptmor, Zachary Precopia, Justin Roberts, Trevor Roberts, Dwayne Uptmor, Daniel Uptmor, Donnie Grones and Ricky Grones.
