A very good farmer and livestock feeder all his life. Later years loved to fish and bowl. Very proud of his camper and boat. Howard E. Cooley, 79, of Mitchell passed away in the Western Nebraska Nursing Home in Mitchell Wednesday morning, November 16, 1983. He was born September 20, 1904 in North Platte, Nebraska, the son of Henry Earl and Elsie Madison Cooley and in 1917 moved with his parents to this area where he received his early education. He married Eva Parberry in 1923 and they farmed in the Victory Hill and Dutch Flats communities until his retirement in 1979 when they moved to Mitchell. Surviving is his wife Eva, daughters, Mrs. Victor (Dorothy) Bauer of Morrill and Mrs. Mervyn (Marilyn) Gompert of Mitchell, a daughter-in-law Charlotte Cooley of Mitchell, 11 grandchidren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles, a daughter Hazel, a brother and a sister. Services were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Federated Church in Mitchell with the Rev. Carlyle Smith officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill with the Jones Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Memorials to the Mitchell Rescue Unit and the Federated Church of Mitchell have been established.
