Bio

MENGLER, IRENE A.—Irene A. Mengler was born to Eda (Volkmer) and Rank Reinsch on Dec. 31, 1913, near Grafton and passed away Nov. 21, 2006, at Heritage Crossings in Geneva at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 20 days. Irene was the second oldest of 12 children. Irene attended grade school in the country through the eighth grade. The rural schoolhouse was just a short distance from her parent’s farmhouse. Irene married Leo Mengler on Sept. 5, 1939 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church near Shickley. Leo died on April 21, 1977. They had no children. Leo and Irene lived in Hastings for much of their married life. After Leo’s death, she moved back to Geneva and lived in an apartment until she could no longer care for herself. It was at this time she entered Heritage Crossings in Geneva. She was a resident there for 15 years. Irene was an immaculate housekeeper. She also liked to read. She and Leo enjoyed driving around the countryside and going to the local county fairs every year. Irene is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Leo Yeck, and sister, Lucille Smith. Funeral services were conducted from the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Geneva with Father Thomas McGuire officiating the mass. Mary Ann Najmon accompanied Ted Dondlinger and the congregation, who sang “Here I Am Lord,” “Amazing Grace,” and “I am the Bread of Life.” Pallbearers were Richard Matejka, Scott Reinsch, Steven Lohmeier, Ronald Psota, Don Reinsch, and Larry Gaver. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery The Nebraska Signal November 29th, 2006 page 10.
