Bio

MATEJKA, MARIE E.—Marie E. Matejka was born to Frank Reinsch and Eda (Volkmer) Reinsch on April 7, 1911, at Shickley. She passed away on March 2, 1995, at the Madonna Home in Lincoln, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 20 days. She was one of 12 children in the family. Marie attended country school with her 11 sisters and brothers across the fence line from the family farm near Turkey Creek. In her youth, she moved to Geneva and lived with her Grandmother Volkmer. She later met Charlie Matejka, and on Feb. 7, 1938, they were married. Three children blessed this marriage. At the time of their marriage they began living with Charlie’s mother, Mary Matejka, in the north part of Geneva. After two boys, Robert and Richard arrived, the family moved next door to the home of Mary Matejka. Several years later, the family moved to 942 K Street, where a girl, Mary Ann, joined the family. Marie had several jobs during her stay in Geneva, one of which was as a counselor for the Nebraska Youth Development Center. Following Charlie’s death in 1975, Marie moved to Lincoln for several years in order to be closer to her family. Following a brief stay at Heritage of Geneva, Marie spent her remaining years at Madonna in Lincoln. Marie was a member of the Senior Center Kitchen Band and also was active in her church and as member of the St. Joseph Altar Society of Geneva. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leonard and Gene Reinsch; and by her husband, Charles. She is survived by two sons, Robert and wife Joan, Richard and wife Imogene; daughter, Mary (Larry) Gaver; seven grandchildren; sister, Irene Mengler, Doris Barber, Frances Voss, Lucille Smith, Barbara Yeck, Mildred Psota, Ruth Nicholson, Agnes Van Wyck and Betty Lohmeier. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 6 from the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Geneva with Father Current officiating. Casket bearers were Steve Lohmeier, Jim Matejka, Dan Psota, Ron Psota, Dan Reinsch and Scott Reinsch. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal March 1995
