Bio

Marie Smith McCorkle, 78, of Muscle Shoals, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003. Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Jack Wilhelm will officiate and interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia. Mrs. McCorkle was a native of Guin, Ala. She worked during World War II in Mobile, Ala., building battleships. She was the sole caregiver of her husband, Brodie, during his terminal illness. Marie was always providing meals to church members and neighbors and was a loving mother, who raised two wonderful children and was adopted by children in the community as their mom. Survivors include her son, Christopher H. McCorkle of Dallas, Texas; and daughter, Deborah Waugh of Decatur, Ga.Pallbearers are Tommy McCorkle, David Bradford, Steve Bradford, Mark Bailey, Bill Waugh and Horace Horton.
