Bio

SCOTT, MYRTLE IONA—Myrtle Iona Scott was born in Essex, Ia., August 1, 1882, the daughter of Matthew and Nancy Ellen Scott. She passed away at the Fillmore County hospital at Geneva, September 23, 1962, at the age of 80 years, 1 month, and 23 days. At the age of four she moved with her parents to Ohiowa. Mr. Scott was a Civil War veteran. She grew to womanhood there and attended the Ohiowa public school. Later she moved to Geneva, where she spent the remainder of her life except for two years when she lived in Fullerton. Miss Scott conducted a dairy business many years in Geneva before retiring. In 1927 her nephew, Darrel Scott, who made his home with her, was injured in a dynamite explosion and lost his eye sight. After that she served as his “eyes” and companion. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, Ray Scott, her nephew, Darrell Scott, niece Norma McCluskey, and husband Ed, and great-nephew, Jack McClusky and family. Funeral services were conducted at Kritner-Farmer funeral home at 2 p. m. Tuesday, September 25. Rev. Robert J. Kasper officiated. Ralph Reemts, accompanied by Mrs. Willard Foster, sang “In the Garden” and “Old Rugged Cross.” Pallbearers were Walter Ebbeka, Thomas Ewalt, James Matejka, Fred Schaldecker, Lloyd Slaybaugh and Neal H. Tucker. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 27 September 1962 page 9.
