Bio

Herald Coaster, December 9, 2002: Clara Zbranek Kalmus Vesely, 92, of Wharton, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in Wharton. She was born June 25, 1910 in Ellinger, the daughter of the late Paul and Emilia Zbranek. Mrs. Vesely was a homemaker and worked in food services for many years while living in Victoria before her retirement in the early 1980's. She lived in Victoria from 1948 until 1984 when she returned to Wharton. She was a former member of St. Mary's Church in Victoria and a current member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. She loved gardening, baking, and taking care of her many house plants. A funeral mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Raymond Jackson officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services were held prior to the mass. Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Eline Kalmus Pekar of Lake Jackson, and Delores and Norman Hanke of Cuero; sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Zenelle Kalmus of Lake Cherokee, and Jimmy and Gussie Kalmus of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Freddie Pekar, Gary Pekar, Douglas Pekar, Theresa Pekar, Debra Pekar, Joey Kalmus, Kevin Kalmus, Michael Kalmus, Lisa Kalmus Smith, Darlene Hanke Jordan, and Karen Hanke Ramirez; and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home, 515 Boling Hwy. in Wharton. (979) 532-3410.
