Wellington Leader May 8, 1986 Jack Ball, 82, died Friday, may 2 at 5:25 pm in Collingsworth General Hospital. He had been a brick mason and in the construction business in Wellington for more than 50 years. He ended that career only a few years ago. He was widely known through the lower Panhandle for the quality of his workmanship, and many public buildings and homes in Collingsworth County are his works. Installing the elevator in the Collingsworth County Court House is one of his last projects and another, about the same time, was building the concrete ramp from the curb to the court house entrance. Mr. Ball was born September 1, 1903 at Cave City, Arkansas, the son of John Henry and Nancy Ball. The family first came to Collingsworth County in 1909. Later they returned to Arkansas for a few years before returning to Wellington coming to live here permanently in 1919. He was married to Nora A. Sanford June 6, 1925 near Hollis. They farmed the first year of their marriage, then Mr. Ball began his masonry work that would be his career. Survivors are his wife; three daughters: Pearl Browder of Memphis, Carra Beth Johnson of Fremont, Nebraska, and Neeta Lewis of Dallas; 7 grandchildren: Belinda Weinel and Linda Keith, both of Amarillo, Mary Beth Knoell of Fremont, Nebraska, Micky Johnson of San Antonio, Mark Lewis, Merri Lynn Lewis and David Lewis, all of Dallas. Mr. Ball was preceded in death by a son, Jack Ball, Jr., and a daughter, Von Dell. -------------------------
